The Environmental Manager develops, manages and directs the city waste programs, including trash, recycling, yard waste, compost, household hazardous waste, electronic waste and other forms of waste. The manager leads programs related to waste minimization, source reduction and other efforts to reduce the amount of residential waste generated in the city, and to maximize the amount and percentage of waste that is recycled throughout the city.
Manages city’s waste management contracts and oversees the operations of city’s recycling center. Obtains financial aid through application for state/federal grant/loans, public outreach/education on the programs offered. Associate or bachelor degree in environmental sciences, public administration or management. Experience in a public setting related to public works or environmental issues such as solid waste, recycling, and government project and program development preferred. Experience in working with and managing employees in a union environment. Computer proficiency on office software (word processing and spreadsheets) mandatory. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. $56,846 annually.
